ijji.com Catches Soccer Fever with New Update to Celebrate the World’s Biggest Sporting Event

IRVINE, Calif. – June 11, 2010 – Olé, olé, olé, olé! Alliance of Valiant Arms (A.V.A) fans drop their guns and hit the field as ijji.com celebrates the start of the world’s biggest sporting event with an all-new soccer-themed update to its popular Unreal Engine 3-powered multi-player online first-person shooter (MOFPS). The update opens up a brand new map set in a soccer stadium and let’s players loose with two new modes of melee fun.

In Soccer Mode, teams spawn on opposite sides of the soccer field and a ball is dropped in the center, marking the beginning of the game. The head of the first player to run over the ball becomes a soccer ball and their objective is to run into the other team’s goal to score a point. The opposing team must take the ball holder out – without the use of guns, as both teams will be restricted to melee weapons in a brutal battle to score the most points. Once a player is knocked out, the ball drops and the player respawns on his team’s side of the field.

“Players come to A.V.A for fast-paced, intense FPS action, but they also look to us to change up their gaming experience,” said Calvin Yang, vice president of marketing, NHN USA, which hosts ijji.com. “Soccer Mode allows our fans all over the world to come together and compete in wacky, frenetic action as the world’s most popular sport takes center stage in South Africa.”

A variety of other features are included in the update, including a second melee mode that ditches the ball, as two teams just go at it in frantic melee action on the field. Other updates include the BumbleBee, a rare new weapon available to players who use the Rifle Man character class, new armor including a soccer-themed helmet and gloves, and several new melee weapons to allow players to pummel each other on the pitch.

Seasoned FPS players, such as Justin “Prank” DeMara, a member of Team Pandemic’s Call of Duty 4 division, lauded A.V.A as boasting “Fast gameplay, heavy amounts of teamwork, replayability.” Having jumped into early versions of the game as well, his colleague Joseph “Nabore” Amorosa commented on the technical nature of the gameply, and how “[A.V.A] takes more skill to master than Call of Duty games.” While the storyline and platforms between the two titles vary, the consistent provision of solid hardcore FPS goodness resonates with any intense PC gamer.
