CES is a media mecca and a true glimpse into the future. It’s also one of the most competitive events in the world, with thousands of companies vying for attention, each one with a more tantalizing innovation than the last. Never shying from a challenge, when our friends at Pico Interactive approached us once again to help unveil its latest VR and AR products at CES 2019, we jumped at the opportunity.
To make matters more interesting, Pico’s North American business model has transitioned completely into the enterprise/B2B market. Its array of VR and AR hardware is now only available to approved businesses seeking ways to integrate the technology into their day-to-day. Frankly, that’s a tough sell at an event called the “Consumer Electronics Show.”
To work around this, we meticulously went through the CES media list (over 4,000 contacts!) for our trusted contacts and those interested in enterprise use cases for technology. After exhaustive careful research, we knew it was crucial to avoid being generic. We approached them all with personalized pitches, taking care to call out past similar coverage or specifically call out how Pico’s enterprise pivot is interesting to their readers. As we often recommend, we also drafted and distributed a press release to formally show off Pico’s new all-in-one G2 4K VR headset and call out its availability for hands-on demos at CES.
Thankfully, Pico isn’t vaporware – they are the real deal. The company has some seriously incredible partners using its hardware to change everything from the way we make presentations to the way we help the visually impaired see again. Name dropping these partners became the crux of our pitching and press release; it proved that Pico is really making moves to bring VR and AR technology into businesses around the world and isn’t just another speculative company showing what it could maybe do in the future.
And… it worked!
Before the show, we secured more than 20 media and analyst meetings (super strong for a B2B tech at a consumer show), all of whom were stoked to come and see Pico’s new hardware and business direction. Add in a bit of our in-person event staffing and one-on-one media training for Pico’s spokespeople and it’s easy to see why CES went so smoothly this year – a major accomplishment when you consider how insane the show truly is.
Here’s a look at some of the media coverage we helped Pico secure:
Another year, another CES in the bag!
