Immediately following our successful launch campaign for United Label’s Eldest Souls, we began preparing for the commercial release of the publisher’s charming, yet brutal, action RPG Tails of Iron. With a compelling story, beautiful hand-drawn art style, an adorable cast of rodent warriors and gruesome, souls-like combat, we knew this indie game had the potential to turn heads and pique the interests of even the highest tier of gaming media.
In the month leading up to the game’s launch, we worked with our friends at United Label to organize an entirely virtual press preview event. We knew that a side-scrolling, souls-like game wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, so we pitched a carefully vetted list of gaming and entertainment media who we believed would enjoy the ultra-challenging gameplay. Our efforts resulted in positive preview coverage from major gaming and entertainment outlets, including Screen Rant, GameRant, Inverse, TrueAchievements, RockPaperShotgun, and PCGamesN.
Following the enthusiastic response to the preview event, we were optimistic that Tails of Iron would resonate with a wide range of rat-loving gamers and souls-like enthusiasts. We compiled a strategically targeted global list of media contacts and began pitching for reviews. Our diligent research and pitching efforts resulted in more than 25 reviews in the first few days, including several from tier-one and -two outlets, including Screen Rant, Tom’s Guide, TheGamer, RockPaperShotgun, TrueAchievements and more – nearly all of which lauded the game and gave it a 4.5/5 or 8-9/10 score.
We pre-pitched the news to a targeted list of media contacts before sending the announcement to our global media list the day of the launch. In the first few days, we locked in coverage with several prominent gaming and entertainment outlets, including IGN, GBATemp, Destructoid, Nintendo Everything, and TheXboxHub.
Throughout the campaign, we also pitched and coordinated interviews between Tails of Iron Lead Designer Jack Bennett and several major gaming outlets and podcasts. Our efforts resulted in interviews with Sportskeeda, RockPaperShotgun, and Dual Screens Podcast as well as interest from several more to come.
We have a lot more coming with United Label this year – stay tuned!
