Nexon America, the publisher behind the popular MMORPGs MapleStory, Riders of Icarus and the upcoming online competitive multiplayer shooter LawBreakers, had another engaging title up its sleeve of amazing online experiences – the 2D side-scrolling MOBA Hyper Universe – and they tapped into Wonacott Communications to build up the hype at PAX South.
One of the major challenges PAX South presented was that it was not a media-dominated show as PAX East or PAX West, so the number of outlets attending was particularly small. That did not stop Wonacott as we immediately got to work booking many top tier and enthusiast reporters and influencers to check out the game.
With no media list available from PAX South, we created our own target list and got in touch with a handful of top media to see if they were attending the conference. With some good news from some major sites and influencers, we felt good about getting appointments for the game. We hyper-accelerated our bookings and got in touch with several outlets prior to PAX, including MMORPG, Bleacher Report, OnRPG / MMOHuts and iDigital Times among other enthusiast media for hands-on time.
After aggressively booking the show for Nexon America, two of our illustrious team flew out to San Antonio, Texas to help staff the show, provide media training and bring in extra media from the floor as they wandered about. Back in Los Angeles, the rest of our group made sure to distribute a release on Hyper Universe and get the word out to top MMO and enthusiast outlets.
Because of the team’s distribution, follow-up with the press release and our pre-booking media, Hyper Universe was well attended at PAX South as outlets, influencers and attendees kept the booth busy for all three days. Nearly everyone who played Hyper Universe enjoyed their time with the game and were eager to get more hands-on later in the year.
Achievements
Overall, Hyper Universe certainly brought the hype to PAX South and beyond as the team met with 30 editors at PAX South – 20 from our pre-booking and 10 we pulled from the show floor – while securing some nice coverage for the MOBA from sites like Bleacher Report, MMOBomb, iDigital Times, MMORPG and WCCF Tech among other publications.
As a result of Nexon America and Wonacott Communications’ efforts, we yielded over 63 million unique impressions for Hyper Universe at PAX South – a fantastic start and debut. We are extremely hyped to see the title succeed at PAX South and are even more hyped to work on the title in 2017.
