Just as silent films kicked off traditional filmmaking, Dynamic Films are the equivalent for AI-powered filmmaking. Dynamic Films are interactive entertainment experiences that use AI as an active author in the story. Agence, the debut short film in this new genre, is a dynamic film that uses reinforcement learning artificial intelligence (AI) to create a unique experience for the visitor on each iteration. And we had the honor of revealing it.
Being neither a traditional film nor a videogame, Agence uses virtual reality (VR) to immerse the visitor in the Agents’ world. We worked with our friends at Transitional Forms and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) to put Agence in the media’s purview. Our first challenge was to try and condense the complex project that Agence was into an easily understandable product fit for media consumption. Developing a tight set of key messaging became paramount to success and after weeks of working at it with our partners, we finally came up with a set of parameters that both painted Agence is a good light and with brevity.
Our experience working with new and innovative products was crucial to finding the appropriate media targets for this story. We extensively researched media that Agence may be relevant to: AI-focused journalists and outlets, VR enthusiasts, gaming journalists, entertainment outlets and general tech media became our prime targets. We broke the ice after a successful showing at the Venice Film Festival when Agence piqued the interest of a tech writer at Mashable, with whom we then helped coordinate our first interview.
We tailor-made and methodically delivered pitches to several journalists. This took weeks and proved fruitful as we set up interview after interview with interested journalists.
We also contacted dozens of fitting influencers who may have wanted to delve into this innovative VR experience.
After weeks of tailored pitching and gathering interest, we scored a few interviews with notable VR outlets and tech journalists. We then coached Agence’s creator and an NFB producer to better prepare their messaging for the interviews alongside drafting briefing sheets for each interview to further guide them to a successful interview.
Our targeted pitching and extensive research paid great dividends as we secured features with some of the most recognizable tech and VR outlets, including MIT Tech Review and UploadVR. We landed several front-page features on major websites which certainly helped boost visibility for Agence. Transitional Forms and the NFB were ecstatic with the results and we certainly were, too.
