Warframe’s “The New War” brought closure to one of the longest running storylines in the MMORPG genre when it launched last December. As a direct follow up, April’s “Angels of the Zariman” was tasked with building on a revolutionary expansion while kicking off further developments in the Warframe universe. Our PR support for this expansion kept momentum rolling from one expansion to another through well-timed previews and targeted features.
“Angels of the Zariman” arrived just after Warframe celebrated its nine-year anniversary as one of the most successful live service games. Our goal in supporting this expansion was keeping longtime fans in the loop about the exciting additions while giving newbies enticing reasons to catch up to this latest chapter.
We kicked off supporting “Angels of the Zariman” by boosting Digital Extremes’ March and April Devstreams. Thanks to extensively researching our targets and offering early access to the juicy details, we shone a media spotlight on these showcases of the anticipated content coming to Warframe fans. Across the two Devstreams, we secured coverage with some essential MMO outlets such as Massively OP and MMORPG, as well as wider coverage from Polygon, Shacknews, International Business Times, and more.
To set up fans for the story details of this mysterious expansion, we needed some deep dives into Warframe lore. We quickly found that Cass Marshall of Polygon and Elliott Gatica of Attack of the Fanboy were up to the job. Both writers are certifiable Origin System experts with years of space ninja action under their belts. We connected them to one-on-one interviews with Digital Extremes Community Director Rebecca Ford to get players up to speed and build up to the next story advancements. Polygon’s piece shared an overview of the story so far, while the Attack of the Fanboy story set the stage of the world after the events of “The New War.”
We vetted, reviewed, and finalized our target list before sharing “Angels of the Zariman” with our media contacts the day of the launch. We locked in coverage with several noteworthy gaming and entertainment outlets in the first two days of launch including Game Rant, Twinfinite, Wccftech and more.
“Angels of the Zariman” proved to be an update media could dive into and create content for. Soon after launch, noteworthy gaming outlets Fanbyte and DualShockers posted multiple pieces guiding players through maximizing their experience.
Digital Extremes isn’t done delivering with this update – a recent Devstream showcased an upcoming patch building on the expansion with new cosmetics and weapons. “Echoes of the Zariman” is set to launch Thursday, June 9, and you can expect to see us boosting that announcement as well.
