Team Wonacott’s CES 2016 Roundup

CES 2016 came to an end this past Saturday in Las Vegas leaving us with an after taste of some of the coolest, weirdest, and “OMG?!” tech of the season. From VR to hoverboards to videogame consoles for pets, practically everything from our wildest imaginations was showcased at this year’s Consumer Technology Association.

Here’s what some of the members of Team Wonacott thought about CES 2016 and what we’re looking forward to the most.

Jason (The PR Guy)

 Drones

I’m just going to say it: I don’t understand all the ballyhoo over and appeal of drones. Maybe I will one day if and when I get one for one of my kids, but for now, I don’t understand the media and consumers that are infatuated with them. That said… Maybe those people don’t understand why I like the gadgets, electronics and gear that I do. Like? Well, CES 2016 had some great sh*t. And I am not talking about 8k TVs that will have absolutely zero content to take advantage of the awesome resolution… BUT, a TV as thin as three stacked credit cards? That’s pretty dope. Also, saw this new Fitbit, and now mine feels… dated. I hope they open it up for app developers; would rather have this than an iWatch. And then there is Samsung… is there anything they won’t make? Well, this shows how they can take an unsuccessful project idea from other CE companies and really advance it into something totally unnecessary but awesome: The Family Hub fridge. Don’t need it. At all. But boy, it sure is pretty cool.

LG OLED

Razer

LG announced a lot of interesting things, but this ultrathin OLED TV had me shocked and a little excited. Also, Razor revealed this ultrathin notebook that when connected to this core unit can actually be setup as a gaming rig…wow.

Dae (The PR Doctor)

Lexus

Polaroid

Taking my pick at everything CES 2016 had to offer – hands down – my top choice would obviously be the Lexus hoverboard. It’s such a wild and crazy thing to growing up watching all of the Back to the Future movies and seeing as each other of these crazy ideas come to life before our eyes. It’s beyond sick. Beyond cooler than cool. CES 2016 honestly just expands consumer thoughts on the limits of what is possible, and today, the hoverboard is a reality.

Coming in at a close second would surprisingly be Polaroid’s new mini camera. To me, the idea of having a small printing camera  is super vintage and just take me back to the 90’s, but in a good way! Call me the resident Wonacott “hipster” of the group, but definitely caught my eye because of its affordability. I can actually see myself hanging out with my friends planning our future Instagram posts based on the ideas we get from the polaroid pics.

Having the hoverboard and Polaroid topping my list of best things from CES. What was old is becoming ‘new’ again. Circle of Life right?

NetflixNetflix 1

I wish I could just end there, but the Netflix slut binger that I am couldn’t end this post without giving a nod to that company that ultimately ushered in a new wave of televised programming for me. Netflix has done an amazing job cranking out quality shows that have constantly delivered some of the best acting and storytelling you’d like to see on TV and their panel showed me that they were ready to continue doing so on a grander scale.

Netflix to me is like 90’s HBO – constantly pushing the limit with it’s show choices and overall themes and turning shows with the potential to be flat into something dynamic and worth investing in. Their panel really set the tone for my expectations on the future of streaming services and television in general with shows such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards and Sense8 returning.

Wahid (PR Geek)

Oculus

Lexus

Obviously the most standout announcement from CES is the pricing of the Oculus Rift at $600. Although it’s a bit pricey for the average consumer, the amount is cheap for what the technology actually is. Oculus is awesome and has tons of potential to grow. I am excited to see what the future of virtual reality has in store.

The second thing from CES would definitely be the Lexus hoverboard! We are actually living in the Back to Future days where our skateboards have no wheels! My hope is that these will be affordable to the average consumer and can glide around the streets.

Alice (PR Tank)

Sony

Misfit

I love LOVE music. I attend music festivals and smaller intimate shows religiously and just started a vinyl collection. With that said, the turn tables that were showcased this season by Technics, Sony, and Audio-Technica are not only some of the most beautiful gadgets that I’ve ever seen, but they are also on the top of my graduation, birthday, Christmas, and every other gift list imaginable. (You can asks for gifts during Lunar New Year right?)

Team Wonacott is a health conscious bunch. We generally bring packed lunches from home and often times go on a nice walk to Rocket Fizz, one of the best soda pop stores ever, during our lunch breaks. Just like The PR Guy, I’ve been an avid Fitbit user, but that new wearable fitness tracker Ray by Misfit just might have a new consumer on their side.

CES 2016 was an interesting show this season. As Jason stated, drones were everywhere, VR, super thin TVs, and come on, a hoverboard? How are they planning on competing with that next year? Team Wonacott is excited and looking forward to CES 2017.
