Thousands gathered in London (the smaller one, in Ontario) last month to celebrate Digital Extremes’ annual convention, TennoCon. It just so happened there was another teeny convention happening across the Atlantic hosting 320,000 attendees at the same time. How do you make your show stand out with press in the middle of Gamescom?
Step one was getting press an early sneak peek during a preview event before the show. We filled out preview seats with awesome writers from Polygon, IGN and Game Rant among other key outlets. In step two, we got the press the full release and assets before the show – securing coverage with 19 of 21 outlets that we booked for the preview. Many dedicated separate features to Warframe and Soulframe.
We also set up travel for press including Shacknews, MMORPG and Massively Overpowered and many others. It was fantastic connecting with everyone on-site and celebrating Digital Extremes’ first in-person TennoCon in three years. Attendees also got an early look at the full marquee showcase, TennoLive.
We provided press ample interview opportunities and places to compose their thoughts before the show, and the day-one coverage speaks for itself: IGN, Game Rant and Prima Games all shared TennoCon highlights immediately after the show. We also secured multiple articles from each in-person media attendee raising awareness for individual beats from the presentation.
Coverage highlights in the days after the show included Polygon, GameSpot and Comicbook.com. We also introduced Warframe to Canadians at large with an in-depth feature story and radio segment from CBC.
