PAX South was a special show for me for three big reasons. First, I have never been to Texas, so getting to explore a part of the United States I’ve never been to was enjoyable Second, I’ve only been to PAX West in Seattle, so as a hardcore gamer, checking out another PAX is very exciting! Last, but definitely not least, we debuted Hyper Universe with our friends at Nexon America!
Hyper Universe, in my opinion, was the surprise darling of the show as not only did we get to show the game to some really amazing media (Bleacher Report, MMORPG, iDigitalTimes, OnRPG and MMOHuts, to name a few), but the booth was packed for all three days with people who wanted to play. Not to mention, several dozens of gamers came back again and again to play the game multiple times. It was both a humbling and awe-inspiring moment and we could not be more pumped to work on this title.
Despite how busy the show was, I did have a few moments to explore and check out some of what PAX South had to offer. While I couldn’t see everything, what I did see was fantastic. Here’s a quick snapshot of the cool things I saw at PAX South:
There were some really cool cosplayers at the show. My personal favorites were anyone that cosplayed Overwatch characters as well as those who dressed up from the web anime series, RWBY! (One of my personal favorite webshows, FYI)
We were also neighbors to Nintendo as they were showcasing the Nintendo Switch. Got a chance to try it out myself – pretty well solid! I really enjoyed the controllers, the sturdiness of the console and how well it played games. This is definitely a pre-order for me!
At the Nexon booth, it was all work and all play. The team (including yours truly and Jason Wonacott, the PR superstar) worked with the best spokespeople at PAX South as we met with many media and influencers. The producer, Hyun Joo Kim, made her introductions with a lot of the media and we are looking forward to working further with her as we move towards Hyper Universe’s launch.
As a big PC gamer, I always like a chance to ogle at the latest technology, so getting an opportunity to see ZOTAC and HP’s sweet setups is always a joy. I don’t think I’ll be getting these anytime soon, but it is awesome to see these beasts of a computer up-close.
Overall, PAX South was a fantastic show for our friends at Nexon America and for the Wonacott crew. We are already excited to make a re-appearance and are eager to see how the show grows.
